As a Grand Rapids photographer, I’m always inspired by the incredible small businesses and family-run farms that make West Michigan so special. Photographing this beautiful family at Idlewild Flower Farm in Belding, Michigan was truly a dream come true. For years, I’ve admired Idlewild’s stunning bouquets at the Fulton Street Farmers Market in Grand Rapids. Their booth is always overflowing with the most vibrant, healthy, and colorful blooms—easily some of the prettiest flowers I’ve ever seen.

When I reached out to offer photos, I honestly felt like it might be a long shot. But to my delight, they warmly agreed, and we scheduled what turned out to be the perfect day—complete with a little sprinkle of rain that only added to the charm. Every corner of Idlewild Flower Farm is filled with beauty, from their abundant seasonal blooms to Merle, their lovable farm dog, to the sweet and welcoming family behind it all.

During our session, I learned each person’s favorite flowers, explored their dreamy flower-drying corner in the barn, and even met their friendly neighbors, Dreamgoats. I left with gorgeous bouquets, a memory card full of heartfelt images, and a new appreciation for photographing small farms and family businesses.

If you’re a small farm, maker, or local business in the Grand Rapids area and are interested in bartering photos for products or goods, I would absolutely love to connect. Capturing the passion and personality behind local businesses is one of my favorite parts of being a Grand Rapids lifestyle photographer. Don’t hesitate to reach out—I’d be thrilled to work together!
