These Michigan baby shower photos for Kelsey were absolutely photos I couldn’t miss! When I found out the date was the day after I landed in Germany, I made sure my camera gear was charged and ready to go before we left, there was no way I was missing it! I had the pleasure of photographing Kelsey’s family when she and her sisters were getting senior photos, and I’ve been documenting significant moments for them ever since. It felt like destiny to be capturing her baby shower, and a few weeks later, her maternity photos.
Upon arriving at her baby shower venue, I was immediately struck by the sheer number of cars parked in the lot. It was packed! The second thing that caught my attention was the infectious laughter and excited conversations coming from inside. As I stepped inside, I was greeted by a sheer joy from people who adored Kelsey and Jared, and by extension, their future daughter. They were talking and laughing about life and all it’s bits and pieces.
Kelsey’s best friend, Jill, read out the questions for the shower games, handed Kelsey gifts for opening, and was there with tissues when the gifts became sentimental. As Kelsey opened a beautifully knitted, stunning white baby blanket from her grandmother, I couldn’t help but wipe away a few tears. It was a moment of pure joy as we all got to witness the opening of an absolute keepsake for the first time.
I love photographing events where I get to roam around and take photos of people just enjoying themselves, without knowing there’s a camera. You get the genuine smiles, mid laugh freezes, moments that are important but overlooked in the bustle that is family events, and the details lovingly attended to. This baby shower will forever be one for the record books!
